When I told people I was going to Lloret de Mar, I got a lot of raised eyebrows. It’s not exactly the Costa Brava’s glamour destination, that title goes to Cadaqués. But Lloret is one of the best-value bases on the entire coast, and I chose it precisely because it offers something the prettier, more exclusive villages don’t: abundant accommodation, reasonable prices, great bus connections, and a genuinely wide range of things to do. If you go in looking for the real Lloret de Mar beyond the nightclub strip, you’ll find something much more interesting than the reputation suggests.
