THE COAST RESORT REVIEW | KOH PHANGAN

I stayed in The Coast Resort Koh Phangan for two nights when visiting Koh Phangan. This is everything you need to know about the hotel.

Getting there

We arrived to the Tonsai Pier in Koh Phangan in the last ferry from Koh Tao at 16.30. We then grabbed a taxi from the pier for 100 baht per person which dropped us directly in the hotel. Upon arrival, we were received with a refreshing welcome drink!

The location

The Coast Resort Koh Phangan is located in Haad Rin, which is where the Full Moon Party happens! However we did not visit Koh Phangan during the Full Moon Party and found Haad Rin to be great still. The town centre is 15 mins walking from the hotel, you can walk either on the beach or through the main road outside the hotel. Haad Rin has plenty of restaurants and stores with really nice and original items, although they are a bit pricy compared to other islands. Apparently prices overall in Haad Rin double when the Full Moon Party happens which is something to take into account as well when visiting. Also at walking distance from the hotel is Leela Beach which I found to be quite charming. Last, if you want to venture to other areas of the island you can buy boat day tours that will take you the hardest places to reach in Koh Phangan. Otherwise you’ll need a taxi + boat combination to get to other must see places in the island.

The hotel

First thing you need to know is that The Coast Resort Koh Phangan is an adults only hotel (16+). The hotel has a decent amount of rooms, it’s big but not at all huge. It displays a very minimalistic decoration, where the colors red and grey are predominant. The aisles with the rooms are full of vegetation which makes you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle.

As its name describes, the hotel is located on the coast. You’ll find the restaurant & bar right by the beach. On the restaurant you’ll get breakfast in the morning which may be included in your room rate. It is a buffet breakfast and really good: there are seasonal fruits, bircher muesli, cereal, pastries, eggs the way you want them, french toast, waffles, pancakes, pastries, various types of bread and different hot options such as veggies, rice and different types of meats. Coffee, tea, water and freshly made orange juice are also offered.

The bar is integrated with the pool in case you want to have cocktails while refreshing yourself. The pool is gorgeous, its bottom is made of black rock which is quite original, and it is an infinity pool which means that when you are inside you can’t distinguish it’s edge from the sea due to perspective.

There are sun chairs and palm trees on the sand itself in case you’d rather be on the beach instead of the pool. Finally, there are free to use kayaks. You can use them everyday for maximum one hour at a time. We used them every day of our stay and had great fun kayaking on the sea. The beach itself from theThe Coast Resort Koh Phangan is not so great to bathe in as the floor is covered in algae and the sand is muddy so it’s a bit weird to step on it. But the pool is so close to the sea you can default to it instead.

The hotel has a fitness room to ensure you keep up with your training schedule. It also offers a free yoga class everyday at 17:00 on the grassy area besides the reception.

The rooms

The room we stayed in consisted on a decently sized main room with a bathroom. The main room offered a big double bed with a flat screen TV, a wardrobe, security box and minibar. Complimentary water, tea and coffee were provided each day. The bathroom was quite spacious, and the shower area is particularly pretty big. The decoration all across was modern and very minimalistic, on the back of the bed there was a reddish pink geometric structure but other than that there were no objects lying around. I quite liked it to be honest, nothing got in the way.

What is really original is that the bedrooms are accessed from outside. There is a wooden deck with two chairs, a table and a clothes hanger which comes in really handy for bathing suits. The actual entrance of the room is actually a big glass sliding door which covers an entire wall of the room. 70% of the height of the glass sliding door is not see through so that means you’ll get a lot of light but no one will see what you are doing inside of the room. At night, a curtain covers the entire wall so you won’t be woken up when the sun rises.

The service

The reception of The Coast Resort Koh Phangan has staff 24/7. The staff we ran into when walking through the hotel always made sure we were OK and were ready to help if we needed something at all times. They can also arrange a transfer, call a taxi, arrange a tour, among other things if needed.

Stay in The Coast Resort Koh Phangan if…

You are kid free and looking to relax, have fun or even just go to the full moon party in Koh Phangan while staying in a modern, sleek and comfortable hotel which has everything you need. The really good thing about this hotel is that you can choose to go out all day to explore if you want to, but you can also just stay chilling at the pool while having drinks at the hotel. We actually saw a lot of people choosing to just relax and we also met people to hang out with in Koh Phangan at the pool! The rates are reasonable – at least when it’s not the full moon party which is when I stayed – so I would say this hotel is great value for your money.
