Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London, the red double decker bus with Peppa Pig characters in the windows

A red double decker bus covered in Peppa Pig characters, a themed afternoon tea and a 90 minute tour past London’s biggest landmarks. When I was invited to try the Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour, I took my son, who had just turned 2, the minimum age. Here is what it is really like, from where it departs to what is on the menu, plus whether I think it is worth the money.

Where Does the Peppa Pig Bus Depart From?

The Peppa Pig bus leaves from Temple (Bus Stop N) on Victoria Embankment, right by Temple Tube station. That is where I boarded, and the official ticket page lists the same spot. Some older reviews say it departs from Somerset House, so if you have read that, go by your booking confirmation instead.

I took the tube to Embankment and it was a short walk from there. Temple station is even closer if you want the shortest walk.

Buggies are no problem. They are folded and taken onto the bus before everyone boards, and they are dropped outside first at the end, so you can pick yours up as you get off.

My biggest tip is to leave plenty of time. Mine was booked for 12:15, boarding was delayed to around 12:45 and we did not leave until after 1pm. The organisers phoned me on the day to say they were running late, and because my son was napping it actually worked well for us. But if you have taken the day off to do this with your kid, or you have somewhere to be afterwards, build in flexibility, because the schedule can change. You can check dates and book your tickets here.

What Is the Peppa Pig Bus Tour Like?

The bus is beautifully decorated. It is a classic red double decker on the outside, and inside the tables have cute pink and blue tones, there is a screen on every table, there are Peppa Pig characters on the windows and there is lots of pink everywhere. It is definitely a great photo op, so make sure your phone is charged.

There are a few ticket types, from the Lower Deck up to the Top Deck and the VIP seats. I was on the Top Deck, not the VIP. The Top Deck in general was good, with the pro that you get a good view from anywhere because you are at the top. The Lower Deck would be my least preferred option. The VIP seats face the back windows, which gives you the best view of all, and as nobody is sitting on the other side, nobody is blocking it.

The Route

The tour takes about 90 minutes in total, but it depends on traffic, so it can run a little longer. The route is sketched on the screen on your table, and there are videos of Peppa Pig visiting the landmarks shown in between the stops, which are really nice.

The adventure begins at Temple on Embankment, right beside the River Thames, and heads past some of London’s best known sights:

  • Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, London Bridge and the Shard
  • HMS Belfast and Borough Market
  • St Paul’s Cathedral, St Bride’s Church and Theatreland
  • Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery
  • Mayfair, Green Park and Hyde Park Corner
  • The walls of Buckingham Palace, which you see from the back
  • Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye
  • Somerset House

The Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea

This is a proper themed afternoon tea, and every item is named after a Peppa Pig character, which is a fun touch if your child knows them all.

Savouries

  • Freddy Fox’s Egg and Cress sandwich
  • Mandy Mouse’s Cheddar Cheese sandwich
  • Grandpa Pig’s Chicken and Tomato burger bun
  • Madame Gazelle’s Veggie Crudité and Breadsticks with hummus
  • Daddy Pig’s mini margherita Pizza

Sweet treats

  • Peppa Pig’s Cookie Shortbread
  • Suzy Sheep’s Chocolate Truffle sprinkled with confetti
  • Mummy Pig’s Strawberry Macaron with strawberry flavoured vanilla butter cream
  • George’s Seasonal Fruit Tart with crème pâtissière
  • Rebecca Rabbit’s Carrot Cupcake with a cream cheese topping
  • Granny Pig’s Mini Scone with jam and clotted cream, which was brought out warm later

For drinks there was a wide selection of teas, plus coffee, hot chocolate, juices and milk, which is what I got my son. Everything is served in very cool Peppa Pig bus takeaway coffee style cups.

My son had a bit of the cheese sandwich and refused all the other savoury things, though I suspect that is because the sweet stuff looked so appealing. He loved the scones the most.

After you book, you choose your menu and give any dietary requirements, and these cannot be changed once you submit them, so double check. Any allergies need to be emailed to the organisers and confirmed by management, so please do not leave that to the day.

Activities and Entertainment

There is a host on board who hypes the kids up before and during the tour. Among the activities she runs are guessing games (guess which animal this Peppa character is) and karaoke, and kids are given a magazine with games and colouring. A Peppa Pig plushie is given to everyone near the end, which was a lovely surprise.

My son was just a few days over 2 when we went, so right at the minimum age. He liked it, but by the end he was kind of annoyed and wanted to get off, which is perfectly normal toddler behaviour. The games and karaoke clearly suit slightly older kids who can join in properly.

Is the Peppa Pig Bus Tour Worth It?

I had a wonderful time as an adult and I would say yes, with a caveat. The tickets I was given were press tickets, but they would have cost £57 for a child and £65 for an adult, and that is a lot for a 90 minute experience. Prices change with the deck and the date, so check the current prices here.

The bus is aimed more at older kids. At 2 you can go, and my son enjoyed parts of it, but I think it would be even better with a child of 3 or 4 and up who can join in with the games, sing along and properly appreciate the afternoon tea. If your child loves Peppa and you want a special treat that also gives you a sightseeing tour of London, I would book it.

Tips Before You Book

  • Leave plenty of time, because the schedule can change and ours ran late
  • Choose the Top Deck for views, and the VIP seats if you want the best ones
  • Fold your buggy, it is loaded on the bus for you and dropped off first
  • Pick your menu and dietary needs carefully after booking, as they cannot be changed
  • Email any allergies to the organisers in advance
  • Charge your phone for the photos
  • Bring a toddler snack in case your child refuses the savouries like mine did

Halloween and Christmas Peppa Pig Bus Tours

The Peppa Pig bus also runs themed versions of the tour. You can see the Halloween Peppa Pig bus tour here and the Christmas Peppa Pig bus tour here. I have only done the standard tour so I cannot say how they differ, but they look like a fun way to make it a seasonal treat.
