Quick Verdict
Summary: The Vivaia Avoir are foldable nylon travel loafers from the brand’s new RE:work collection. I wore them for six days in Belfast, on over 10,000 steps a day, and then to a theme park and they were comfortable the whole way through. They run a little roomy and I got one blister on my left heel on the first afternoon, but it disappeared quickly and never came back. They wipe clean, they look smart enough for travelling, and I would happily buy another pair.
Pros
- Genuinely comfortable, even on days of 10,000 steps or more
- Wipe clean, I have not needed to wash them yet
- Held up in damp Belfast and in the rain, even though they are not advertised as waterproof
- Foldable, with a storage bag, and a clip strap at the back that keeps the pair together while you travel
- Smart enough to look classy while travelling
Cons
- They run slightly roomy (I took a 5.5)
- I got a blister on my left heel the first afternoon, it disappeared quickly and did not come back
- Light colours will get dirty, the sole is flat and exposed to whatever is on the floor
- They are soft and unstructured, so not a traditional structured loafer

FAQs About the Vivaia Avoir Travel Loafers
Why I Wear Vivaia
I have been wearing Vivaia for five years now, and I have owned more than 20 pairs. Not every single pair has been a winner, but I still have pairs from five years ago that are in great nick, and I have never had to throw one in the bin.
My priority with shoes is comfort, always, and that is why I keep coming back. I am also what you might call a mucky pup, so the fact that most of their shoes are washable is a blessing. When I stop wearing a pair I sell it on Vinted, and because the brand has such a good reputation they resell really well. If you are new to Vinted, you can use my referral link to sign up. Funnily enough, although I resell my shoes, I would never buy resold shoes myself. It is probably the only thing I will only ever buy new.
If you want to see how my other pairs stack up, my honest review of 5 pairs of Vivaia shoes goes through them one by one.
If you would like to look classy when travelling, while being comfy, then go get them! They are so perfect for mums and walkers alike.
About Vivaia and the Avoir
The Avoir is a square-toe loafer made for travelling, which is why Vivaia calls them travel loafers. The upper is a soft, wear-resistant recycled nylon, and the whole shoe is designed to fold. Vivaia’s own tagline is “place, roll and go”. They are part of the RE:work collection, the brand’s rethink of workwear: the styles you want to wear with the comfort you have always needed.
A few things worth knowing from the product page:
- Triple-sole construction for cushioning on long days on your feet
- Natural Artemisia argyi herbal insole and all-day arch support
- Anti-slip rubber outsole
- Lightweight, at 141g per shoe (EU size 37)
- Machine washable, according to the product page
- Packaged in 100% recycled cardboard
They cost £175, so they are not a cheap pair of shoes. Check the current price on the Vivaia website, and use my code VPAULA for $10 off.
Vivaia makes a lot of sustainability claims, and there have been accusations of greenwashing too, so I think it is fair to be upfront about that. My view is that making shoes from recycled materials is still better than making them from brand new plastic, even if the shoes cannot be recycled again at the end of their life. Many of their styles are knitted from recycled plastic bottles, and the Avoir uses a recycled nylon upper. Where I think Vivaia genuinely does well is durability: a shoe that lasts for years, can be cleaned, and can be sold on to someone else is simply better for the planet than one that gets worn twice and thrown away.
Delivery and Packaging
I did not keep track of exactly how long delivery took or where the shoes shipped from, but they arrived pretty quickly, with no hassle, and no customs or delivery fees to pay.
The packaging is minimalist, in a recyclable cardboard box that is always the same, which is what is best for the environment and for storage. The storage bag that comes with each pair was a lovely plus.

Trying Them On
I took a size 5.5 in dark chestnut and they are a little bit roomy. I did get a blister on the back of my left heel the first afternoon I wore them, which disappeared pretty quickly, and I did not get it again.
There is a strap at the back that clips the pair together, so you do not lose one while you are travelling.
They look like very soft leather, so they are not structured shoes, and they look very different to my knitted Vivaia pairs. That is why I gave the style a 4/5.

Putting Them to the Test
The travel day. I did not need to pack them, because I simply wore them on the way. My packability score comes from the foldable design, the storage bag and the clip strap, rather than from squeezing them into a case.
Six days in Belfast. This was the real test: six days in Belfast, on over 10,000 steps a day, with a toddler in tow and manual work in the properties we were refurbishing. The weather was as it always is in Belfast, a bit damp, and I wore them with socks. Apart from that first blister, I had no rubbing at all. I also wore them for a day out with my son at Belfast Botanic Gardens’ Palm House. They are not advertised as waterproof, but in the damp they seem to be, and I had no problems.
A day at Chessington. I wore them to Chessington World of Adventures, a very different kind of day to a city break, and they felt great all the way through.
Keeping them clean. I have been using them an awful lot and they did get dirty, but they wipe clean, so I have not needed to wash them yet. The product page lists them as machine washable if you want to.
Rain. I got caught in the rain in them and had no issues.
My Verdict
The Vivaia Avoir are SO comfy. I have no cons beyond the small ones above: they run a touch roomy, I had that one blister on day one, and light colours will get dirty.
They look very different to my other Vivaia pairs, because they are not knitted. I would 100% buy the grey or the seaweed or the black, but I would not buy the white, because the sole is flat and exposed to everything on the floor, so they would get dirty too easily.
At £175 they are not cheap, but I will get so much use out of them that I rate the value 5/5, and I would absolutely buy them again. If you want to look classy while you travel and be comfortable, these are perfect for mums and walkers alike.
Are the Vivaia Avoir travel loafers comfortable?
Very. I rate them 5/5 for comfort. I wore them for six days in Belfast on over 10,000 steps a day, and to Chessington. I did get a blister on my left heel the first afternoon, but it went quickly and never came back.
Do the Vivaia Avoir run true to size?
They run a little bit roomy. I took a 5.5 and they were slightly loose, and the roominess is what caused the heel blister on day one.
Are the Vivaia Avoir waterproof?
They are not advertised as waterproof. In my experience, though, they coped with damp Belfast and a rainy day with no issues.
Are the Vivaia Avoir machine washable?
The product page lists them as machine washable. I have not needed to wash mine, because they wipe clean.
How much are the Vivaia Avoir?
They cost £175. Check the current price on the Vivaia website, and use code VPAULA for $10 off.
Is there a Vivaia discount code?
Yes, use code VPAULA for $10 off all VIVAIA orders. It works site-wide with no minimum spend.
Can you resell Vivaia shoes?
Yes. I have owned over 20 pairs and never thrown one away. I sell mine on Vinted and they resell really well.
